CCCMBCA Announces the 2023 All-State Team, POY, COAY
33 players from 25 different colleges were honored
The California Community Colleges Men’s Basketball Coaches Association announced its 2023 All-State team today. In all, 33 players from 25 different colleges were honored at one of two levels, first team or honorable mention.
San Bernardino Valley sophomore guard Dominique Daniels, a graduate of Trinity International, was named the Southern California Player of the Year. The award makes him a two-time player of the year after receiving the award last season. Daniels, who as of this release date is the state’s leading scorer, and the Wolverines won the Inland Empire Athletic Conference championship and advanced to the 2023 CCCAA State Championship tournament for the second consecutive year.
In 31 games this season, Daniels averaged 26.3 points and 6.4 assists. He was a workhorse, averaging 35 minutes of play. He finished the year shooting 50 percent from the floor, 40 percent from the three-point line and made 82 percent of his free throws.
College of Sequoias sophomore guard Javohn Garcia was selected as the North California Player of the Year. Garcia, out of Brewster Academy, averaged 20.8 points, 5.2 and 3.6 assists a game for the Giants. Playing 28 minutes a contest, Garcia shot 52 percent from the floor, 46 percent from beyond the three-point line and was an 85 percent free throw shooter.
He and his teammates captured the Central Valley Conference and advanced to the 2023 CCCAA State Championship tournament for the second consecutive year. As of this release date, Garcia is 13th in the state in scoring.
Quincy Brewer, who coached San Bernardino Valley to the Inland Empire Athletic Conference championship and a spot in the 2023 CCCAA State Championship tournament was named the Southern California Coach of the Year. The Wolverines finished the year 27-4, having lost in the first round of the state championship tournament.
The Northern California Coach of the Year was Ryan Bisio of College of Redwoods. Bisio, a two-time conference coach of the year, finished just his third season at Redwoods. This season, Bisio led the Corsair to the Golden Valley Conference championship and a spot in the regional tournament as the number six seed. After beating #11 Cosumnes River, 76-66, Redwoods lost in the regional final to #3 Sequoias.
