Daniels, Gaskin, Johnson Selected Players of the Year
Jones, Labagh named Coaches of the Year
The CCCMBCA announced today that San Bernardino Valley’s Dominique Daniels, San Francisco City’s Naseem Gaskin, and Sequoias’ Ryan Johnson have been selected as the 20220 State Players of the Year. West Los Angeles head coach Anthony Jones and San Francisco City head coach Justin Labagh were named California Coaches of the Year.
In all, 26 players were honored as first team all-state and seven more were honorable mention.
Daniels, a 5-9 freshman guard from Trinity High School in Compton, averaged 22.1 and 5 assists points per game. Gaskin, a 6-4, sophomore guard from Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland anchored a scoring offense that averaged 95 points per game. Gaskin averaged 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4 assists per contest. Johnson, a 6-5, sophomore guard from Hanford High School in Hanford, poured in 17.2 points per game. He also averaged 6.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
Each of these players and their teammates will play in the CCCAA State Championship this weekend at West Hills-Lemoore College.
Jones was rewarded after leading West Los Angeles to its first state tournament. The Wildcats won the Western State-South title and are 27-3 headed into their first-round match up against Las Positas on Friday (March 11) at 1 pm. Meanwhile, Labagh won his 10th California Coach of the Year award. The Rams won the Coast-North title, his 16th title. San Francisco City (29-1) is looking for its fourth state title until Labagh. The Rams Take on MiraCosta at 7 pm in a state quarterfinal match up.
