Silmon, Phipps, Haynesworth Earn CCCMBCA Scholarships

CCCMBCA Announces Scholarship Winners
Allan Hancock's Will Silmon, College of the Canyons' Zach Phipps and Skyline's Noah Haynesworth have earned the California Community Colleges Men's Basketball Coaches Associations student-athlete scholarships for the 2020-21 season.
Winners were selected on four criteria — the candidate must have participated in basketball at a California Community College for two seasons; the candidate must have completed 40 semester units or 60 quarter units with a grade-point average of 3.25 or above on a 4.0 scale; candidates will be evaluated by the selection committees using the following weighted standards — scholarship – 50 percent; athletic participation – 25 percent and participation in other campus or community activities – 25 percent. Two letters of recommendation must have accompanied a nomination.
Silmon, a 6-5 forward out of Arroyo Grande High School, played in 30 games for the Bulldogs, averaging 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds. He will attend California State University, Fullerton. Silmon was named to the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association All-Academic Team, earlier this year.
Phipps, a 6-3 guard from Saugus High School, played in 25 games, starting 24. He averaged 15.9 points and 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. A two-year starter at Canyon, he will move on to the University of California, Merced. Phipps earned All-Western State Conference and Academic All-State honors. Phipps was named to the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
Haynesworth, a 6-2 guard out of Tamalpais High School, started all 27 games for the Trojans. Haynesworth, who will attend UC Davis, was a second team all-conference selection. He also excelled in the classroom, receiving the Philip and Ellis Garlington Scholarship at Skyline which recognizes the top student-athlete. Haynesworth graduated Magna Cum Laude, earning a degree in Psychology.
Each student athlete was awarded $750.
