Regional Pairings Released; First-Round Games Wednesday
San Francisco and Santiago Canyon earn No. 1 seeds; OEC gets six teams into regional tournament

San Francisco, the state's top-ranked team all season and champs of the Coast-North Conferenc,e and Santiago Canyon, co-champs of the Orange Empire, received their respective regions No. 1 seeds. San Francisco, winners of 28 straight games, is looking for its fifth state championship (1962, 2011, 2016, 2018). Fresno City, the champions of the Central Valley Conference for the 19th consecutive time, was seeded No. 2. Columbia, runner-up to Fresno City and tied for second with College of the Sequoias in the Central Valley Conference, received the No. 3 seed. Yuba, champions of the Bay Valley Conference, was seeded fourth.
In the South, Santiago Canyon (26-2), co-champions of the Orange Empire Conference, edged East Los Angeles for the south's No. 1 seed. Los Angeles Valley was seeded third and Santa Monica fourth. Fullerton, the defending state champions, is seeded sixth. With six teams (27 percent of the field), the Orange Empire had the most participants selected for regional play.
Regional game times are 7 pm. In the event of a men/women doubleheader, game times are 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Higher seeded team chooses its preferred game time. Ticket prices for regional games are $12 and $8 for students, faculty and staff with a valid college ID, senior citizens (over the game age of 60) and children under the age of 12.
In all, 41 teams earned a shot at winning the state championship. The Final Eight tournament will be held at West Hills College-Lemoore, March 13-15.
